So (unfortunately... very unfortunately) Earl and I had to return from Miami Monday, thus ending a week of sunshine, beautiful beach, but more importantly great networking opportunities. And also the beach.. my hotel room's back door opened and you were on the beach, ahhhhh...
We went down for the Winter Music Conference - my first time there- and it was well worth the trip. Although it's officially a dance music conference, people from all corners of the music industry descend on Miami for the conference: DJs, executives, radio people, media (bloggers, music editors), artists etc... A great place to meet people get your music out (in this case of course, Ciara Corr's Get My Way), and get some biz cards.
There were also some awesome panels with some famous folk discussing the music industry and/or their careers. Pitbull and DJ Laz, a radio personality at Power 96 in Miami. Definitely one of the major hilights of the conference - they were hilarious, personable and engaging, it's good to meet famous folk that haven't let the fame go to their heads. He even gave his email out to everyone in the room! Also caught Randy Jackson from American Idol at a 'Getting Airplay' forum - it was interesting, though I didn't agree with him! His premise was that 'a hit is a hit' no matter when it was created, you could make it work in any musical era. I disagree - I think timing can also be crucial with some huge hits, regardless of what kind of remix you put on it (would 'Take the A Train be a hit in this era? Any chance?). So Randy, if you're reading this (which you're not) you're wrong. There, I said it :)
Beyond the WMC stuff me and Earl were wined and dined by entertainment lawyers affiliated with Flo-Rida, first at the famous Prime restaurant, where apparently all the famous people go. And there was an unexpected dinner guest - Dennis Rodman. Now going into this I thought at the very least this would be 'interesting'. And I guess you could say that. But really in a mental institution sort of way. I guess I can't go into everything here but, take how crazy you think he is and multiply it by 1000.
Anyway, unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and sadly we had to leave. We'll be sure to go back soon though, hopefully with some club performances for Ciara Corr!
A few more tidbits this week for Ciara Corr. One is a nice little interview done with Revenge Fashion Magazine after her performance at Couture Fashion week, check it out here:
Also another nice little feature in another blog 'Music Fascination'. Big thanks to Jared for this!
Anyway, me and the big boss man Earl 'The Pearl' Monroe are off to Miami next week for the Winter Music Conference, can't wait! Will be sure to give reports from down in the sunshine :)
Got some very exciting news over the weekend - Ciara Corr's 'Get My Way' just got named 'Song of the Day' for today (Tuesday March 9) on DJ Ron's Dance Music Blog on the main page of About.com's dance music section! Check out the link below, or read the full review below that!
"Get My Way" feels like a preparation for a wedding - something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Ciara Corr is a new artist on the dance scene blending hip hop and house styles to create a catchy debut single (something new). Remixed by club legend John Morales, who did some of the earliest extended dance mixes by splicing tape with razor blade, the track fits the current commercial music you might hear on Sirius or US dance radio. You can discover John Morales classic M&M productions with Sergio Munzibai on a recently released BBE compilation. While not exactly sampled, there a several elements that seem borrowed from other current tracks - the whispered vocals, the hook in the chorus, yet they all seem fresh in this track. Blue could describe the lighting in the video or the slightly adult nature of the double entendres in the lyrics - "Dry lips aren't my choice," hmmm. Overall, "Get My Way" is a fun little dancepop song from a new artist worth watching in the future.
Big thanks to DJ Ron! Also quick news on radio - 'Get My Way' was supposed to air this Friday on Hot 93.7 in Hartford but there was a bit of a snafu with the DJ and the song, so unfortunately it will have to wait until next week. :(

So here it is, the first post for the Reverse Spin Records blog! I'm Haley Brawner Label Director at Reverse Spin Entertainment (Label Director is code for I do anything and or everything here), which is the legendary NBA Hall of Famer Earl 'The Pearl' Monroe's record label, currently a pop, dance, hip hop and R&B label - but we are basically focused on CLUB MUSIC, since that's where music is really going. I started in January of '09 so I've been with the company just over a year now... and what a year it's been!
First, the experience of working for Earl has been class. Growing up in New York as a Knicks fan, you can imagine there's not much of a bigger thrill than working for one of the heroes of your sports team - I'm only 27 so I wasn't actually on this earth when he played, but some players transcend just the era they played in, and he is one of them. And he is as nice in person as you might think if you've ever seen him being inter viewed, so the experience has been a pleasure. And of course it is only made that much better that he is not the typical NBA person trying to get into music - he had a hit artist in the 80s with Curtis Hairston - and has once again had an eye for spotting talent, which has made my job easier, since it's obviously much easier to work with talented artists... duh.
So when I came on we had artists - dance/pop artist Ciara Corr and Hip Hop/R&B/Reggae artist ChinaBlak - and some good songs - but the path was basically wide open as to where we would go. Part of that of course, working with a small independent label, is finding ways to produce quality material more efficiently than a major would, and I'd say we've been able to do that. We've worked with talented producers such as Mark Wilson (Will Smith's Wild Wild West), John Morales (an absolute legend in the house music world), as well as director Alastair Christopher (aka Gee Lock) on music videos to our first two singles.
What are the singles? Well the first is Ciara Corr's 'Get My Way', a hard hitting techno/house club banger with mainstream pop appeal. The process of getting to the official first single is long and arduous, but fun... going through all the tracks you have, decide which are worth recording to, mixing em down, and deciding which one has the best chance of success for radio and with dance and pop music fans... and that's tough to do! But Get My Way was the choice and I think we have chosen well :)
So we shot a video:
This was fun... but it's also an intense process - we shot two videos in one weekend, so logistics (getting the vans, equipment, making sure dancers extras are there, and on time) and fitting everything into the time we have in the day (which we didn't - we all ended up getting about 10 hours of sleep total from Friday to Monday) was absolutely crazy. But worth it! Hope everyone else agrees...
And all of this has lead to now. We're running a national radio and video campaign, which started about 2 weeks ago and has already yielded some excellent results. Working with Joey Carvello with Upstream Music Group, an excellent radio promoter (worked projects like LMFAO, Pitbull etc.) we've already got Ciara Corr's 'Get My Way' in rotation at Jamz 96.3 FM in Albany, and have gotten some spins on B96 in Chicago and KKUU FM in Palm Springs, California. But this is just the beginning and hopefully there will be many more to mention soon! On the video side, in April the video will go into rotation at over 1200 Foot Locker's around America, which is pretty wicked.
Well that's it, a year's worth of activity encapsulated in one nice little short-ish blog. Hopefully there will be loads of new exciting announcements soon, stay tuned!
Every once in a while a label comes along on the cutting edge of the music industry, coming out of nowhere with unique new artists and the hottest new music. Created and run by NBA legend Earl 'the Pearl' Monroe, Reverse Spin Records is ready to be that label and fill a gaping void with new, different and exciting club music, from pop and dance to hip hop and R&B.
Now he and Reverse Spin Records are poised to bring the most exciting new hip hop, pop and R&B artists to the forefront of the music world again. Reverse Spin Records is excited to introduce its premiere, pop/dance artist Ciara Corr. Blending high energy and hard hitting techno/house with mainstream pop appeal, her trademark sass and a dash of sex appeal, her debut single 'Get My Way' is the perfect introduction for Ciara Corr to the music world. The single has officially gone into rotation at Jamz 96.3 in Albany, as well as getting spins on U-92.7 Palm Springs California and B96 FM in Chicago.
